Two Carriers, One Week: How RubbishBids Monitors the Marketplace
Earlier this week, our monitoring flagged a carrier account on RubbishBids for suspicious activity. We suspended the account immediately and blacklisted it from the platform. Days later, a separate report showed why that kind of monitoring matters.

What happened
Earlier this week, our monitoring flagged a carrier account on RubbishBids for suspicious activity. We suspended the account immediately and blacklisted it from the platform.
A few days later, a customer in South London told us that rubbish collected through a booking on RubbishBids had been left in her street rather than taken to a licensed disposal site. She had to report it to her local council and deal with the clean-up herself. We take this kind of report seriously, and the carrier responsible for her job was suspended straight away.
When we cross-referenced the two cases, we found the accounts were connected. Both have now been reported to the Environment Agency and to the relevant borough council, with full job records handed over. We also gave the customer copies of her booking record so it was clear the job — and the responsibility for what happened to her waste — sat with the carrier, not with her.
How we catch this
RubbishBids is a marketplace: carriers on the platform are independent businesses, not RubbishBids employees, and we don't supervise every job in person. What we do instead is monitor patterns across jobs, accounts and payment activity, looking for behaviour that doesn't match a normal, legitimate operation.
Customer reports feed straight into that monitoring — a single report can be the thread that connects to something we were already watching. We won't publish the detail of what the monitoring looks for, for the same reason a fraud team doesn't publish its rules: doing so just tells bad actors how to avoid them.
What we require of every carrier
None of this guarantees good behaviour from every carrier, every time — no marketplace can promise that. But it gives us a paper trail to act on when something goes wrong, and it's why we could move as fast as we did this week.

If a rubbish removal company dumps your waste
If you think a carrier has fly-tipped waste collected from your property, a few things are worth knowing.
Take photos
Photograph the tip, the location, and anything else you can capture, then report it to your local council as fly-tipping. Councils can usually take reports online and will often investigate, since fly-tipping is a criminal offence.
Know your duty of care
Under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, householders have a duty of care to make sure their waste is handed to someone authorised to take it — in practice, checking the collector holds a valid waste carrier's licence.
Keep your booking record
The confirmation email, the date, the carrier's name if you have it, and any photos from collection day. If you booked through RubbishBids and something like this happens, contact us with your booking reference.
If you booked through RubbishBids, that licence check was done for you at signup, and we can confirm the booking and the licensed carrier assigned to the job — we'll pull the job record and support any report you make to the council or the Environment Agency.
Why this matters if you manage property
If you're a landlord, property manager or contractor booking clearances regularly, this is the part that should matter most: you carry the legal and reputational risk if waste from your property ends up dumped, even when someone else collected it.
