Rubbish Removal
Wandsworth

Wandsworth Council gives you two free bulky collections a year — if your waste qualifies. It won't take rubble, plasterboard, fitted units or doors, and Smugglers Way won't let a van through the gate. That's where we come in.

Post your job free and compare prices from EA-licensed carriers across SW11, SW12, SW15, SW17 and SW18. Your number stays private until you pick someone.

What Wandsworth Council won't take

The council runs two separate collection services. Neither takes construction or demolition waste — and the HWRC bars the vehicle most builders would arrive in.

If your waste is household bulky — use the free collection

If the items fit the council's service (household bulky, not construction) and you have a free collection left, book directly with the council. RubbishBids is the right option when your waste won't qualify, you've used your allowance, or you need items collected from inside the property.

Skip Costs

What a skip actually costs in Wandsworth

Most of Wandsworth is a controlled parking zone. The licence fee is the small part. The bay suspension is where the bill grows.

Council figures: 2025–26 rates (1 April 2025 – 31 March 2026). 2026–27 rates not yet published by the council at time of writing. Verify at wandsworth.gov.uk before relying on these figures.

Skip licence (public highway)

DurationLicence fee
5 days£37.60
14 days£37.60
28 days£72.20

Bay suspension (CPZ spaces — per chargeable day)

TierCharge/day
Tier 1 — minimum 5 days£43.40
Tier 2 — 6–35 days£60.90
Tier 3 — 35+ days£77.40

Derived totals — our arithmetic from the council tariff

5-day skip, CPZ street (£37.60 + 5 × £43.40)£254.60
28-day skip, Mon–Fri CPZ (£72.20 + 20 × £60.90)£1,290.20

These are our calculations, not council-quoted figures. Chargeable days: Mon–Fri CPZ = 20 per 28-day period; Mon–Sat CPZ = 24. Bank holidays excluded.

Driveway exception

A skip entirely on private land — a driveway — needs no licence, no bay suspension, and no permit at all. Licence and suspension charges apply only when the skip occupies a public highway space.

Wandsworth-specific restrictions

Maximum skip size: 12 cubic yards (9.2 m³)

Roll-on/roll-off containers not licensed in Wandsworth — fail the Builders Skip (Markings) Regulations 1984 and exceed maximum dimensions

Grab lorries are not permitted to empty a skip in the borough

Unlit or unlicensed skip: fine up to £1,000

Application: minimum 5 clear working days before start, submitted by 3pm

Council responds within 3 working days; payment due within 24 hours; licence issued within 4 working days of payment

A site meeting may be required before the licence is granted — this can push your start date

When a skip is the right choice

Long project with continuous arisings over several days

You have a private driveway and no licence is needed

You are self-loading and setting your own pace

Rubbish removal in Wandsworth — what you need to know

The council takes household bulky waste for free, refuses construction waste entirely, and bars the vehicle a builder would arrive in. That gap — everything the council won't touch — is where RubbishBids operates in Wandsworth.

Carriers bid without seeing your contact details. Only the carrier you choose gets your number. No calls from the ones who didn't get the job — a mechanic no other platform matches.

As the waste producer, you can be fined if an unlicensed carrier dumps your waste illegally — even if you did not know. All carriers on RubbishBids are Environment Agency verified.

When to use a private carrier instead
Sofas, Mattresses & Furniture

When to use a private carrier instead of the council

Wandsworth Council gives every household two free bulky collections a year — up to four items or twelve sacks. If you can carry the item to the kerbside and have a collection left, use the council. These are the four cases where you can't.

1

Inside collection

The council's service is kerbside-only. Items must be placed in the front garden or on the public highway next to the entrance — only after 6.30pm the day before. Collection crews do not contact residents, porters or concierges. A third-floor flat with no lift means the council does the easy part.

2

Free allowance exhausted

Two free collections per year, four items each. After that: £24.90 minimum, £11.10 per additional item. A flat clearance is rarely four items.

3

Landlords

The free service covers residential landlords, but those collections are not free — standard charges apply, up to eight items. Tenancy turnaround in SW11 and SW18 generates regular clearance demand the free service does not cover.

4

Timing

Items on the highway only from 6.30pm the day before. Collected 6.30am–7pm with no time slot given. No ability to request a morning or afternoon window.

Fly-Tipping Warning

Fly-tipping in Wandsworth — know your responsibilities

Fly-tipping is illegal. Wandsworth Council enforcement officers can issue on-the-spot fixed penalty notices of up to £1,000. Non-payment within 14 days can lead to criminal prosecution — the maximum penalty on conviction is an unlimited fine and/or imprisonment. Vehicles used for fly-tipping can be seized and destroyed. Source: Wandsworth Council waste enforcement page

If you hire an unlicensed carrier and they dump your waste illegally, you can be fined. Always check that your carrier holds a valid Environment Agency Waste Carrier Licence before handing over your waste.

How to avoid fly-tipping fines

Only use EA-licensed waste carriers — all carriers on RubbishBids are verified.

Ask for a waste transfer note — you are legally entitled to one for every collection.

Never hand waste to someone who knocks on your door offering cheap removal.

Post your job on RubbishBids and get competitive quotes from verified local carriers.
