Wandsworth Council gives every household two free bulky waste collections a year, each covering up to four items or 12 sacks. Beyond that, a collection starts at £24.90. There's no fixed published wait — the booking system shows you real available dates for your address, all falling on your normal bin day. Below is the full price list, what the council flatly refuses to collect, and what to do when your job doesn't fit their service.

How long is the wait?
The council doesn't publish a fixed turnaround. When you book online, the system shows the real dates available for your address — collections always fall on your normal household bin day, between 6.30am and 7pm. How far out that first available slot is depends on demand in your postcode at the time you book, so treat any generic "within a week" figure you see quoted elsewhere as a rough guide, not a guarantee. Two things that catch people out
If the crew is delayed, your booking automatically rolls to the next day — no action needed. But if they arrive and can't access or find your items, the booking is marked complete anyway: no refund, and if it was a free collection, that allowance is gone for good.
What Wandsworth Council will NOT collect
Construction, demolition or preparatory waste
Rubble, bricks, soil, stones and tiles — refused from both the free bulky and the paid DIY waste service.
Plasterboard
Excluded even though it's a common DIY off-cut, not a demolition material.
Boilers and radiators
Excluded from the DIY waste service specifically.
Household hazardous waste
Chemicals, paint and asbestos need a separate, specialist disposal route — not this service.
Tyres
Not on the accepted list. Take them to Smugglers Way HWRC or back to a tyre retailer.
American-style, side-by-side or commercial fridge freezers, and range cookers
Excluded by size and refrigerant-handling rules, regardless of allowance.
Fixed or built-in items
Anything still fitted to the property — kitchen units, bathroom suites, fitted carpets — is refused.
Rigid items over 6 feet
Or anything two operatives can't lift safely between them.
Anything left inside your property
This is a kerbside and communal-point service only — crews do not enter homes or take lifts to reach flats.

What you must do before collection day
Houses with a front garden: place items where they're clearly visible and accessible from the street.
No front garden: you can put items on the public highway next to your entrance, but not before 6.30pm the evening before your collection, and never in a way that causes an obstruction.
Flats: items go to the communal bin storage area or waste collection point for your building — not outside your own front door. Crews will not enter buildings, use lifts, or ask a porter or concierge to locate anything for you.
Collection window: 6.30am–7pm on your booked day. Nobody will call ahead — have items out and ready by 6.30am.
If the crew can't access or find what you booked, you are still charged (or lose a free collection) and will need to book again — there's no automatic refund or reschedule for a failed collection on your end.
Council collection vs private carrier in Wandsworth
For one or two kerbside items you still have a free collection for, the council is genuinely the cheaper option — use it. A private carrier earns its cost when your waste is refused, your allowance is used up, or you need it gone from inside the property rather than the kerb.
